Adjudant (Staff Sgt Maj) Petrus HARBOORT

Engineer Company

Born in Wilsele on the 17th May 1907

Wounded in Sallenelles on the 17th August 1944 (deceased on the 22 in Wroughton - UK)

Buried in Heverlee in 1948

 

On the 17th August 1944 the Engineer Company of the 3rd Platoon supports the progression of an armored car squadron by clearing mines on the Road from Sallenelles to Franceville. It was during this mine clearance that Warrant Officer (HARBOORT) was severely injured by a mine because of jumping from his vehicle in order to make contact with the 3rd platoon leader. He later died from his injuries on the 22nd August 1944 at the hospital in Wroughton.
