Wounded in Sallenelles on the 17th August 1944 (deceased on the 22)
Buried in Thorembais-les-Béguines
It was during an offensive patrol on the 17th August 1944 in Sallenelles, that the patrol commanded by Warrant Officer (Van Remoortele) came under heavy machine gun and mortar fire seriously wounding (Duchenes) he was evacuated back to friendly lines but later died as a result of his injuries on 22nd August 1944 in the 6th Canadian Hospital.
